“Why should I start a blog?” I thought to myself one day.
“Well, all of your friends are doing it…” and then my father’s voice jumped into my head“If all your friends were going to jump off the…” you get the picture.
So why now? I’m not into social media, I mean I have a facebook account, but my 91 year old grandfather does too…they have become like social security cards. Everyone has one, no one really knows what to do with it but leave it lying around the house and hope you don’t lose if for fear of identity theft.
But this blog thing kept nagging at me. I mean who really wants to hear my meanderings of the mind? That is what Buzzy is for. Buzzy is my french bulldog, you are going to get to know her pretty well. Of course right now there is no “you” out there, but maybe some day…
I do have constant thoughts of grandeur. I have a degree in acting after all. But that seemed like a silly reason to create a blog and anyway I try to keep my thoughts of grandeur below an 11 on the 1-10 scale. So creating something for the world to read just to feed into my own ego was against my greater id.
I love love love to write. I also have a degree in poetry. But I hate hate hate to be criticized so most people don’t see my writing. The fear is a bit too debilitating with that one, I’m sure that will be something I’ll be working on getting over with my blog.
I pride myself on being individual. Not going with the Jones or the anti-Jones. Just being me. So this poses a problem with the aforementioned “everyone is doing it” and the “but I’ve always wanted to” of blogging.
So I let the blog thing rest.
Then I became a Yoga teacher and suddenly this desire to write about my life became stronger.
My life is yoga. I don’t mean the turning yourself inside out upside down pretzel asana, not that I don’t enjoy that as well, but the actually essence of how to live one’s existence.
I’d like to you imagine a pyramid. Yoga is my base. It holds me together and keeps all my parts reaching toward my greater goal. The next layer is my family/husband/Buzzy. My friends come next. There is no order of importance in my pyramid, everything does it’s equal parts and brings me equal and immense love. Pilates is next, this my extra-curricular activity. I’m also a Pilates instructor, which I love to do and teach. It is very much a mind/body/soul activity but for me. The shining beacon on the top is my dream, my path into the difficult and wonderful world of acting and performance (including dance and singing). There are plenty of other layers in my pyramid as well; french language, the ocean, jewelry making, reading, wine, chocolate, and the list goes on. But we are going to start with yoga in this blog.
So there is my answer. I want to blog about my life and how it pertains to yoga. However this blog will not be a “how to” guide, though I’m certain there will be sections of that. It will not be a preaching “you should” book, though I’m sure I’ll give my opinions and suggestions. It will not be a “diary”, however my days will certainly shine through.
All I want for us is to just Be. Be Yoga every day and add an extra e for excitement/enjoyment/elation/energy/enthusiasm or whatEver you like
And in the spirit of the little lite in my life this blog is named BeeYoga(old blog name). After Buzzy, my little Bumble Bee.
